Honda City Hatchback RS e:HEV price revealed in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia launched the all-new City hatchback in the country back in December and since then we were waiting for the price of the range-topping RS e:HEV variant. Well, our wait is over now as the Japanese carmaker has unveiled its price today. It is on offer at a price tag reading RM 107,783 (on-the-road without insurance). The price includes the ongoing sales and service tax rebate that is valid until June 30, 2022.

So, what does the City Hatchback RS e:HEV offer at this price point? 

Talking about the design first, Honda touted the City hatchback as an ‘Energetic Hatchback’ which looks even sportier with the exclusive RS styling. These are gloss black finishing on the front grille, solid wing, and door mirrors that lend a two-toned body colour expression. It also gets an exclusive shape in the areas of the lower grille, fog garnish, and rear bumper. 

The hatchback is kitted with LED lights all around, including LED Headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED front fog lights, LED rear combination lights. Also part of the kit is a tailgate spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Under the bonnet of the City Hatchback RS e:HEV lies a 1.5-litre Sports intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) powertrain, combining a 98 PS/127 Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and an electric motor delivering 109 PS and a segment-leading torque of 253 Nm. The latter is equivalent to a D-segment naturally aspirated engine torque performance. 

The powertrain gets an electric continuously variable transmission and advanced 2-motor hybrid system that regulates three driving modes - EV, Hybrid, and Engine.

On the performance front, the RS e:HEV trim runs from zero to 100 kmph in 9.7 seconds before clocking a top speed of 175 kmph. The fuel consumption is rated at 3.6 litres per 100 km.

Inside the new City hatchback RS trim, you get sophisticated and sporty Ultrasuede seats, a 7.0-inch TFT instrument panel, 8.0-inch display audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, single-zone automatic climate control, and several first-in-segment features. The latter includes rear air conditioning ventilation, Honda LaneWatch, electric parking brake, and remote engine start. 

The range-topping City Hatchback variant also comes with the Honda Sensing ADAS pack, which includes advanced safety systems like Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, and Auto High Beam. The safety kit also includes an Auto Brake Hold providing the driver an extra convenience during stop-and-go traffic situations. 

Further ensuring safety, security, and convenience on the go is the brand’s innovative advanced technology called Honda CONNECT.

As per the company’s Managing Director and CEO, Ms. Madoka Chujo, the “all-new City Hatchback RS e:HEV will set the benchmark in the market with its complete package of stylish RS exterior, e:HEV powertrain, Honda SENSING, and advanced telematics Honda CONNECT. It will be an attraction to customers especially the younger audience.” 

Honda Malaysia offers the City Hatchback RS e:HEV comes in three shades - Ignite Red Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl. With every purchase comes a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, five times complimentary labour service, and an eight-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for the lithium-ion battery.
