Honda and Acura EVs to be manufactured by GM
KUALA LUMPUR: Remember the Honda electric SUV concept with the next-gen driver-assist system that the automaker displayed during the 2020 Auto China show? Well, back then no details of any sorts were shared by Honda, however, it did mention that the concept ‘indicates the direction of a future mass-production model’. In the lines of the announcement, we now hear that this EV SUV concept or another electric crossover from Honda might be manufactured by GM.
As per a report from Automotive News, General Motors will be manufacturing two Honda EVs at its assembly plant later this decade. The publication further goes on claiming that General Motors will commence production of a Honda electric crossover in 2023 at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico. It is the same plant where Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer are also produced.
That’s not all, as Automotive News also mentions that GM will produce the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq and a battery-powered Acura-branded car in Tennessee. The said cars are believed to hit the production belt in 2024.
An unnamed source also revealed to Automotive News that the two Honda EVs and Acura battery-powered vehicles will be of the same size as the Cadillac Lyriq. Further, the concerned Honda and Acura vehicles are said to feature Ultium batteries made by GM. It is also said to power Cadillac’s first electric vehicle.
