Here is the Mercedes-Benz SLC Final Edition
MANILA: The eight-year-old R172 generation of the Mercedes-Benz SLC might bid adieu to the world sooner than we expected. The car was a blockbuster at the time of its launch in the year 1996. Reason being the folding metal hardtop design which was then used as inspiration across the globe. However, what matters most in the automobile industry is sales. Higher the sales figure a car achieves, longer it is going to stay afloat. Lower the units sold and the chances of sinking deep down the in history lane rise rapidly.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a special variant of the convertible heartthrob, the SLC Final Edition. And the term ‘Final’ in the title may well hint towards an exit soon. Just like the launch color of the R170, the SLC Final Edition comes dipped in Sun Yellow paint. Boasting 18-inch five-spoke machined AMG alloys along with sporty front and rear bumpers, the car is an AMG Line trim. Thanks to the AMG Line sport suspension, the ride height of the SLC Final Edition is lower by 10 mm than the standard model. The braking duties are assigned to larger than before brakes which include perforated rotors along with front-callipers with Mercedes branding.
Black accents on the wing mirrors, door handles, front spoiler, and rear diffuser are also offered along with light color options like Diamond White, Sun Yellow, and Polar White. The front fenders get SLC Final Edition badges. Moving inside the SLC Final Edition, we see that the upholstery is done in black and silver pearl Nappa leather. The stitching and the seat belts, on the other hand, have received alpaca grey treatment. Moreover, we also find carbon fibre finishing on elements like the gear knob, headrests, seat backs, and steering wheel, which is a flat-bottom unit that adds to the sportiness of the car.
Other notable amenities on the car include memory sport seats, four-way lumbar support, bright aluminium trim panels, embroidered floor mats, and air scarf neck heaters. The SLC 180 (158 PS), SLC 200 (187 PS ) and SLC 300 (248 PS) make up the variants of SLC Final Edition. However, there is also an AMG SLC 43 equipped with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 motor that can produce 396 PS of maximum power. What more the AMG SLC 43 gets? There is stuff like an AMG Performance steering wheel with a crystal grey 12 o’clock marker, matte black alloys, and exterior highlights in gloss black color. While the departure of the car seems inevitable, we hope the SLC gets a successor at least.
