Get ready for a new Bugatti, arrival scheduled for Oct 28

KUALA LUMPUR: The arrival of a brand new Bugatti, whose credentials are unknown to a major extent, is exciting news amidst the pandemic, right? With the limited information that the brand shared via two teasers, we are left with our imagination going haywire. But it will all end soon, as the hypercar manufacturer announced the car's arrival date, i.e., Oct 28.

Coming to what we know about the upcoming Bugatti, the very first teaser image showed the car's rear profile, with only the X-shaped LED red light strips visible. It appears to be a signature lighting element different from the one seen in Chiron and its related trims.

Then came another teaser that gave away even less info about the car. It simply stated the text 'what if...? accompanied by the number '0.67'. Now, there is no indication whatsoever, on what it could mean. It certainly can not be the 0-100 kmph run time, as it's way too far fetched. Now, there is a possibility that it could represent the car's power-to-weight ratio, in kW/kg. A 0.67 kW/kg figure translates into a 2000 kg car putting out 1340 kW, that's a little under 1800 bhp. Also, the kilowatt unit suggests a fully electric car.

Now, the above-mentioned power-to-weight ratio figure is not a million miles away from that of Rimac C_Two - 2018 unveiled electric hypercar making 1888 bhp. The delivery of the Croatian based car is due for next year.

Now, there is a reason we are talking about Rimac. There are reports coming in of VW Group considering selling the Bugatti brand to Rimac along with hiking Porsche's shareholding in the latter from 15.5 percent to 49 percent.

So, the only thing we could figure out from all this is that either the upcoming Bugatti might be the automaker's first EV with a Rimac engine. Or it could be a track-only car inspired by Bugatti's Vision Le Mans design, utilising the tried and tested 8.0-litre W16 power plant.
