Geely to enter Philippines in the Q4 2019
MANILA: According to the reports, Geely Binyue is slated to enter the Philippines market as Coolray. The rebadged Chinises car is expected to arrive in Q4 of 2019. In the Philippines, the Coolray would be sold as a completely imported unit from China. The car is expected to range between 1.2 million to 1.3 million, approximately RM 96,000 to RM 105,000. It would be sold by Geely’s local distributor in the Philippines - Sojitz Auto Philippines.
The Philippines-spec Coolray will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill that poops out 177 hp of maximum power and 255 Nm of peak torque. The power would be sent to the wheels via 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission unit. The car is expected to come along with driver assistance technologies like an automatic parking assist and 360-degree view monitor with four exterior cameras.
Froilan Dytianquin, Geely sales, and marketing manager in the Philippines said “Right now, we have seven business partners lined up; these are expected to establish their dealerships by the last quarter (of this year). For the meantime, Sojitz will be both distributor and dealer.”
The soon to arrive Geely model might be called the X50, the car has been spotted on many occasions while doing test runs on the local road. And the upcoming vehicle is in line with the Proton product launch strategy which the company shared via a presentation during the 2019 Saga launch event.
We also know that Geely Binrui, a C-segment sedan is a prospective candidate for Proton 2021 launch and next up is Geely Borui, the Perdana replacement arriving in 2022. This rounds up Proton’s 5-year launch plan that started with the X70 SUV.
