Geely set to bring Zeekr EVs to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: After the Malaysia-China Business Forum that inked the deal between DRB-Hicom and Geely deal to jointly develop the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Malaysia, MITI minister YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz visited the Zeekr Intelligent Factory in Hangzhou Bay, Ningbo to map out Malaysia and Proton’s NEV journey.

For those who are not aware, Zeekr is a premium electric automobile brand owned by Geely which was established in 2021. It is now set to enter the Malaysian market as a part of MITI’s investment mission to China. The arrival of Zeekr EVs was announced on Smart Malaysia’s Facebook handle, which will happen after the smart brand's debut in Malaysia.

As a smart mobility technology company, Zeekr is focused on electric cars and adheres to a user-centric enterprise philosophy. The company’s Intelligent Factory “maximises the application of IR4.0 and 5G connectivity and epitomises the highest level of manufacturing efficiency.” 

During the visit, the minister held discussions with Geely and Proton regarding the new energy vehicles and intelligent technologies, took a tour of the facilities, and previewed a range of NEV models.

A brief on Zeekr EVs 

The brand currently offers three EVs globally - Zeekr 001, Zeekr 009, and Zeekr X (003).

Introduced in April 2021, the Zeekr 001 is touted as the world’s first mass-produced pure electric shooting brake. It comes equipped with a dual-motor setup making 400kW of power with 700 Nm of torque, allowing the car to complete the century sprint in 3.8 seconds only and hit a top speed of 200 kmph.

The Zeekr 009 is a premium MPV launched in 2022. It is the world's first model to utilise CATL’s ultra-long-range cell-to-pack Qilin batteries. The Zeekr X (aka 003) is a premium urban SUV that underpins Geely’s Scalable Electric Architecture found on the smart #1 EV.
