Geely Galaxy E5 pre-sales start in China; launch due in August 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, the Geely Galaxy E5, which is scheduled for an August 2024 launch in China is already available for pre-sale. Also, sales and deliveries on the EV are said to commence in August itself. The pre-sales give us a chance to check out Geely’s latest creation a little bit in advance.

Geely Galaxy E5: Key details

Platform: The all-new Geely Galaxy E5 is built on the automaker's popular GEEA 3.0 platform that features a cell-to-body integration.

Dimension: The Beijing Motor Show 2024 debutant measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height. Its wheelbase stretches to 2,750 mm.

Exterior design: The Geely’s modern-looking electric SUV features several interesting design and tech elements including a tiger face, eyes, and whiskers at the front along with a closed front grille that helps reduce the drag coefficient. Other features seen on the EV are - hidden door handles, through-type taillights, a tailgate spoiler, and a scuff guard underneath.

Cabin features: As expected, the Galaxy E5 comes loaded with modern, high-tech features like -

• Central infotainment screen
• An LCD instrument panel
• A head-up display
• Flat-bottomed steering wheel with a two-spoke design
• Dragon Eagle-1 (domestically produced 7 nm automotive chip) running the car’s Flyme Auto HMI system
• AI capability (voice control, text, and music)

Powertrain configuration: The Galaxy features an 11-in-1 intelligent electric motor; it is a 160 kW e-motor that is common across all its five variant options. This unit pumps out a maximum power output of 218 hp.

Performance: Thanks to its intelligent e-motor, the EV can complete a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 6.9 seconds.

Battery: The Galaxy E5 is the first Geely to utilize the Aegis Short Blade battery which is claimed to have a shelf life of 1 million km and is said to even survive rifle shots without catching fire.

The EV is offered in two battery capabilities, namely a 49.52 kWh and a 60.22 kWh unit. These two offer all-electric SUV CLTC-rated ranges of 440 km and 530 km respectively.

More details about the upcoming Geely EV will be revealed with its official launch in August 2024. Until then make peace with the fact that the Galaxy E5 has been developed as a world car with its right-hand version under testing.
