GAC Lion Hyper HT EV debuts in Thailand; price begins at RM 260k

KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese automaker GAC Motor is gearing up to begin a new chapter in Malaysia. It recently previewed a total of three SUVs (GS3 Emzoom, Emkoo, and Aion Y Plus), appointed nine dealerships in Peninsular Malaysia, and signed an MoU with WTCA for local assembly of vehicles. While ahead of that, the brand made a striking appearance at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand.

GAC Aion, the EV subsidiary of the GAC Group, showcased the Hyper HT during the event. The pre-bookings of the EV are now open in the Land of Smiles at an introductory price of THB 1,999,900 (approx RM 260k).

Launched in China last year, the GAC Lion Hyper HT is a fastback electric SUV that measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,700 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,935 mm. It underpins the AEP3.0 third-gen electric platform and comes with an upgraded body structure and a low centre of gravity. 

In terms of looks, the EV has a smooth design language with round headlights, rear gull-wing doors, and retractable door handles. Inside the cabin lies a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, both powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P chipset. Also part of an oval-shaped three-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging pads, and a 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system.

The Hyper HT comes with a rear-wheel drive electric motor generating a maximum power of 244 PS. The battery capabilities range between 70-kWh and 93-kWh offering a maximum range of up to 770 km (on the CLTC cycle).

As for safety, the EV comes equipped with several advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear-collision warning, and more.
