Fully-electric Chery Omoda E5 coming to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery will expand its lineup in Malaysia with the launch of its first EV model, the Omoda E5, next year. It is the fully electric version of the Omoda 5 and will be offered as a fully imported (CBU) EV in the local market. The first units of the Omada E5 have recently arrived at Port Klang.

Let’s know the upcoming Chery Omoda E5 in detail - 

The Chery Omoda E5 is powered by a front-mounted electric motor which delivers a maximum power of 224 PS. Feeding the motor is a 61 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which lets the EV cruise up to 450 km (on the CLTC cycle) on a single charge. The battery supports both AC and DC charging; the latter takes only 30 minutes for 20 to 80% state of charge. Performance-wise, the car runs from zero to 100 kmph in 7.8 seconds.

In terms of the exterior design, the Omoda E5 boasts the CROSS styling concept with a closed-off, body-coloured panel on the front, giving the SUV a futuristic look. Compared to the ICE-powered Omoda, the EV features a restyled lower bumper, a chrome panel between the headlights, distinctive alloy wheels, and a tweaked rear bumper.

The interior of the Omoda E5 looks more like the non-electric model and has no gear lever on the central console. The Malaysia-spec iteration will come equipped with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems including 16 functions, as confirmed by Chery Malaysia.

When it comes to colour choices, Malaysians will get to choose from seven exterior and three interior options.

The Chery Omoda 5 EV will compete against the GWM Ora Good Cat, BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia Niro in the local market.
