Fourth-Generation Skoda Fabia to feature MQS A0 platform & revised interior
KUALA LUMPUR: Autocar recently confirmed that the ever-popular Skoda supermini hatch would arrive in the first half of 2021. Also, to reduce the complexity of having to build old and new platforms simultaneously, the automaker has revised the upcoming Fabia’s arrival plan.
The ongoing Fabia platform will be replaced by VW’s MQB A0 architecture, which supports cars like VW Polo, Audi A1 Sportback, and Seat Ibiza. Thus, making sure that the Czech car is no longer seen in poor light in the family.
On the design front, the 4th generation Fabia will be a completely different car, way ahead from the 2nd and 3rd gen models. Autocar also says that the supermini will source inspiration from the Kamiq crossover with design clues and details sourced from Octavia and Scala.
Coming to the interior design and features, Autocar tells that the upcoming Fabia will benefit from a major overhaul. Also, continuing with the ongoing dashboard design and tech is off the table, as it’s off-putting and outdated compared to Volkswagen standards. The list includes - a revised setup, a larger display, and latest infotainment system with connectivity features.
The UK-based portal also says that initially there are no plans to offer any electrification versions, not even one with a mild-hybrid engine. However, with electric cars becoming the future of the auto industry, an electric powertrain could come from across the group's lineup.
Under the hood configuration will remain the same, except for the diesel power unit. Autocar confirms a three-cylinder TSI petrol engine in varying power outputs. Also, expected is the powerful four-cylinder engine.
Lastly, Autocar says that now with VW’s MQB architecture on-board, the 4th generation Fabia will show major improvements in the car’s refinement and comfort level.
The price tag is expected to get a hike but not much.
