Ford Marks Record Sales in ASEAN Region in 2015
Kuala Lumpur/Bangkok: The American carmaker has once again proved that it is one of the most loved foreign automotive brand in the ASEAN region. The Ford Motor Company has recorded a combined retail sales of 103,975 units in the ASEAN region, which is 3.3% higher than its sales in 2014. The record sales involved four major markets of ASEAN segment including Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Considering the challenging domestic conditions and weakening automotive market for the third consecutive year, it looks that Ford did pretty good.
2015 has been a great year for many foreign car-makers in ASEAN region. Honda became number one non-national brand in Malaysia by recording mammoth sales of 94,902 units in the year 2015. This made Honda the number one foreign car-maker in the country in terms of sales unit.
Talking about Ford Malaysia, the brand did very well here as well. Ford delivered its second best consecutive performance with overall retail sales rising 31 percent to 13,938 units. The major reason behind the success of this American car-maker was its rugged pick-up truck Ford Ranger, the pick-up became the second best-selling vehicle in the country along with the Philippines. This Thai-built Ranger also became the best-selling pickup in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar for second consecutive year. The Ford Ranger hit an overall sales record of 54,114 units in ASEAN region, which is 8% higher than its earlier record. In 2015, Ford Ranger also awarded with a maximum 5-star safety rating by the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP). The Ranger received the highest Adult Occupant Protection score of any pick-up truck tested by the organisation, that accentuated its image and sales even more.
Mark Kaufman, President, Ford ASEAN said, “The successful introduction of more global Ford vehicles across ASEAN in 2015 including the new Ranger pick-up and all-new Everest SUV helped an even more diverse range of customers connect with the Ford brand.” He also added that “Additionally, we continued to enhance our customer and ownership experience, as well as expand our Ford dealer network in markets across the region.”
Apart from the Ranger, the boost to Ford's sales was also given by its compact SUV EcoSport, that gave a whole new definition to the compact SUV vehicle segment across the ASEAN markets. The Ford Ecosport remained Ford’s second best-selling nameplate in the key markets of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia, with a total sales units of around 18,149 units. Besides the Ranger and Ecosport, the all-new Everest also saw strong sales in ASEAN markets from the third quarter, the SUV is still due for its bombastic launch in the Malaysian markets.
With such stellar results of 2015, Ford is all optimistic to continue the same zeal in 2016 as well. The American carmaker is full with confidence and momentum with its Everest SUV, Ranger Pick-up and Ecosport Compact SUV in the ASEAN region for 2016.
