Ford India recalls EcoSport to update powertrain software
KUALA LUMPUR: The Blue-Oval brand has announced a recall of EcoSport models in India that were produced between November 2017 and March 2018. Around 7,249 models have been recalled to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software that’ll help in eliminating battery drainage and sudden deceleration.
Customers have been assured that the update will resolve the problem and their vehicles will work as intended. The issue came to light when a few customers in the country complained about the issue to the company.
The recalled EcoSport comes fitted with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine that produces 125 PS of power and 150 Nm of peak torque. The company will intimate owners if their car needs to install an update via an email or letter. Customers can also check if their vehicle falls under the recall category by inputting their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the company's official website.
This is the second time Ford had recalled EcoSport. Earlier this year, in July, around 1,000 facelifted EcoSport models were recalled over the driver and front passenger seat recliner lock problem. The models produced between November 2017 and December 2017 were inspected for the issue then.
In Malaysia-spec Ford EcoSport is powered by a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT, DOHC petrol engine that churns out a max power of 110 PS and a peak torque of 142 Nm at 4,400rpm. No such issues have been reported in the country, however, we are looking to dig in to collect the necessary details and learn if EcoSport in Malaysia also requires a similar update. Stay tuned with us as we'll keep you posted on the same in our future stories as well.
