Ford Capri to debut on July 10

KUALA LUMPUR: Did you know that Ford and Volkswagen have teamed up to build electric cars? No, well, there is nothing to be ashamed of as we also got to know about the union only a few days back. Together the two automakers have already built an EV called the Explorer and now they are all set to unveil another EV.

Here’s what we know about the upcoming Ford EV -

Name: The upcoming Ford EV is inspired by the brand’s iconic model during the 70s and 80s called the Capri. It will be called the Capri EV; a revival of the moniker after nearly 40 years.

Body type: The upcoming electric vehicle will be a coupe SUV and will be a VW MEB-based model, smaller than the Ford Explorer EV. The said VW platform also underpins other EVs like the Audi Q4 e-tron, VW ID.4, and Skoda Enyag.

Range and Performance: Thanks to VW’s EV technology, the Capri EV will enjoy performance and range close to that of the ID.4. However, it is likely to offer a shorter range than the Explorer (602 km WLTP range)

Price: The Capri EV will most likely cost less than the Explorer.
Production: The upcoming EV will be manufactured at the automaker’s Cologne facility, which has received the required funds and improvements to begin production.

Inclusions: Though nothing has been revealed by the automakers yet, the first teaser image of the Capri EV makes it clear that benefits from headlights with DRLs and LED taillights.
