FMCO Update: UMW Toyota shuts manufacturing and sales operation
KUALA LUMPUR: To curb the spread of COVID-19, the Malaysian Government has imposed a Full Movement Control Order, aka, ‘total lockdown’. Meaning everything will remain closed except for essential services, but that too would require following the guidelines issued. The local automobile industry is getting affected too by the FMCO, for instance, Toyota Malaysia has temporarily suspended its operations in both sales and manufacturing.
However, like Honda Malaysia is offering after-sales service during FMCO, Toyota Malaysia too has been granted permission to open select 3S and 4S centers nationwide. This even includes body and paint centers.
Ravindran K., President, UMW Toyota Motor said, "The past few weeks have been challenging for all of us. During these difficult times, we at Toyota and Lexus stand with all of you in solidarity in our fight against the pandemic. We have temporarily shut down our non-essential services. At the same time, we understand that during this time of uncertainty, we can still be of assistance and support. This is why we continue to be here for vehicle emergencies and breakdown.”
He further added, "We are extremely grateful to the Government for taking numerous intervention measures to not only safeguard Malaysians from the threat of the pandemic but in introducing financial and industrial policies to ensure that the pandemic does not have a too severe impact on the economy. This includes a further extension of the SST exemptions which we believe has, and will continue to contribute significantly towards restoring consumer purchasing confidence."
Here’s how things will work at UMW Toyota until the FMCO lifts -
Aftersale services
Customers in need of service will be required to book a prior appointment to ensure a smooth flow of operations. Also, only a handful of technicians will be available depending on the requirement.
Warranty extension
Customers who have purchased a Toyota during the MCO with warranties that’ll expire during the FMCO period will be offered a 30-day extension based on the current lockdown's final day.
We’ll keep updating you on the FMCO advancements related to the local auto world that will supposedly lift next week, but there is a strong possibility of an extension. Until then stay home, stay safe.
