First-ever 7-seater Mazda CX-90: What’s on offer

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda has been teasing the CX-90 SUV for a long time and now the automaker has unveiled the car in the United States of America. It will be the automaker's flagship SUV in the country and is the second model in its Large Product Group category after the CX-60.

First-ever Mazda CX-90: Key details

Engine

Mazda’s latest SUV is powered by an all-new e-Skyactiv G 3.3-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine generating a max power of 340 hp along with a peak torque of 500 Nm. These figures represent Mazda’s highest horsepower and torque from a mass-production petrol mill.

Paired with the petrol unit is a 48-volt mild hybrid system, not to forget the standard i-Active all-wheel-drive system and new 8-speed automatic transmission unit. The latter is specifically designed for large platform vehicles and electrified longitudinal powertrains. Also, without a torque converter, the multi-speed gearbox archives smooth and direct acceleration along with enhanced drivetrain efficiency.

In the future, the automaker plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of a 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder petrol engine.

Design

The CX-90 is essentially a larger version of the CX-60 with a long bonnet, large vertical grille, light bars linked to small headlamps, and more subtle & vertically aligned air curtains. The rear features L-shaped tail lights, an exhaust outlet with chrome trim, and not-so steep rear window. The SUV drives on massive 21-inch wheels.

Mazda is offering the car in a striking Takumi Nuri hue called Artisan Red.

Cabin features

The CX-90 showcases a stunning and comforting interior, thanks to its packed feature kit including new & advanced tech along with driving experience elevating amenities.

Part of the CX-90 specs sheet are the following features -

• 3rd-row USB-C charging ports
• 3rd-row air-con vents
• Upgraded interior lighting
• Massive 12.3-inch active driving display
• Nappa leather upholstery
• Wood and tone-on-tone fabrics
• Infotainment screen (sized at either 10.25 or 12.3 inches)
• Three-zone automatic climate control with all-row air vents
• Ambient lighting

Safety

As expected, the Mazda CX-90 packs a bucket load of safety features that provide the owner complete peace of mind at all times. Part of the safety kit is Blind Spot Monitoring, Smart Brake Support, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control.

The brand new feature called the ‘See-Through View’ is also part of the package and is capable of intuitively discerning information necessary for a car's operation.

Launch

Unlike the CX-60 and CX-80 which made their debut in Europe, Japan, and other regions; the new CX-90 will first arrive in the North American market before making its way to other regions.
