Facelifted Hyundai Grand Starex launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 witnessed the official launch of the upgraded Hyundai Grand Starex. The refreshed big-sized MPV can now be brought inside your garage for RM 148,888 on-the-road minus insurance, with a five-year/300,000 km warranty. It is offered in the Malaysian market in a single variant, Executive.

This refreshed MPV by the South Korean auto marque extracts its power from a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel powertrain that delivers a 170 PS at 3,600 rpm and churns out a peak torque of 441 Nm between 2,000 and 2,250 rpm. The engine comes coupled with a five-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission, funnelling power to the rear wheels.

The Hyundai Grand Starex now features a more elegant and refined design unlike the bold and aggressive appearance of the outgoing version. The external design kit includes rear and front fog lamps. The front fascia bears horizontal, trapezoidal-fashioned projector headlights. Horizontal slats, featuring clusters, are noted on the sides of the Hyundai’s flowing grille. At the rear end of the vehicle, prominent restyling could not be spotted as the tail light has retained its original shape. However, the faux exhaust vents have been ditched. The roof spoiler continues to be there too. The vehicle rides on 16-inch alloy wheels complimented with 215/70 profile tyres.

Inside the cabin, one can go with the standard fabric upholstery or opt for the leather one. It comes with three rows where the second one can be swivelled to face the passengers sitting in the third row. Like the Thai-spec, the Grand Starex launched in Malaysia also does not have the all-new dashboard design spotted in the brand’s domestic market.

The automaker has focused a good deal on the safety aspects of the vehicle. It comes packed with an array of safety features like 4 airbags, ESC, anti-lock braking system, cruise control, rear-view camera, parking sensors, and traction control.
