Porsche U.S. Stops Sale of 2014-16 Diesel Cayenne Following 'Notice of Violation'
KUALA LUMPUR: After receiving second 'Notice of Violation' (NOV) of U.S. Clean Air Act (CAA) from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Porsche U.S. has voluntarily issued a 'stop sale' order of the model year 2014-2016 Cayenne Diesel SUVs in the country. In its official press release, the automaker has referred the 'Notice of Violation' as “unexpected” and also stressed that its 'stop sales' order is “Voluntary".
Porsche has also advised owners to continue to drive their Cayennes as per normal. The stop sale order will remain in place indefinitely until the company can "resolve" the issue. Yesterday, EPA issued a second 'Notice of Violation' of U.S. Clean Air Act (CAA) to the Volkswagen Group after it found the 3.0-Litre TDI V6 diesel engine in Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche passenger vehicles affected from 'diesel emissions cheating devices'. The 'Notice of Violation' was issued to five companies of Volkswagen Group including Volkswagen AG, Volkswagen Group of America, Porsche AG, Porsche Cars North America, and Audi AG.

According to EPA, the 'cheat devices' found on the Volkswagen Group's 3.0-Litre TDI V6 diesel engine is basically a software in the control module that helps the vehicle in knowing when it is being tested for compliance with EPA emissions standards and during that time, the vehicle takes measure to ensure that it meets the EPA's emissions guidelines. But once the test is concluded, the vehicle will reconfigure itself back to a 'normal' setting and starts emitting more nitrogen oxide (NOx) than it pretended to emit during the test.
In the 'NOV', EPA has alleged that nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from the 3.0-Litre TDI V6 diesel engine were up to nine times than EPA's standard. Other diesel models of Volkswagen Group which were listed in EPA's second notice of violation: 2014 Volkswagen Touareg, 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5. The 'NOV' covers around10,000 diesel passenger vehicles sold in U.S., since the model year 2014. But the number of 2016 diesel passenger vehicles covered by the 'NOV' is still unknown.
