Electric Mazda MX-30 First Edition priced at £27,000

Electric Mazda MX-30 First Edition priced at £27,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda has recently revealed its launch edition variant. This will be the automaker’s first all-electric SUV which will go on sale in the UK in 2021. Named as the Mazda MX-30, it is now available to order with prices for the 124-mile electric car starting from £26,995. Electric SUV enjoy some privilege from the government in the form of a £3500 plug-in car grant, which automatically gets deducted at the point of registration. This implies that the electric SUV is originally priced at £30,495.

With production limited to just 500 units in the UK, Mazda MX-30 electric SUVs will hit the UK markets at the beginning of 2021. Though available at pre-order now, this newcomer will initially be offered in high-end First Edition appearance.

“Our first all-electric Mazda heralds an exciting start to Mazda’s second century in business,” said Mazda Motors UK’s managing director, Jeremy Thomson. “With the First Edition MX-30 order book now open, customers in the UK can reserve a car for just £800 for delivery early in 2021. A battery-electric vehicle conceived and created with Mazda’s well-renowned focus on distinctive styling, innovative technology, the MX-30 will be a stand out addition to the rapidly evolving EV marketplace. The launch of our first pure electric car is a milestone moment for the brand and a landmark moment for our dealers and customers here in the UK,” he added.

With that whopping price, the Mazda MX-30 comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, and black door mirror caps. Rear privacy glasses and black window trim also prominent features of this high-end model. Customers are also given a choice of mixing and matching colors with a three-tone paint job that mixes either red/white with black/grey upper panels.

Inside of the car will be decorated with part-leather seats, an 8.8-inch central infotainment screen and climate control. Satellite navigation is included and other ubiquitous features like the Android Auto, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration systems, heated front seats, and a head-up display for the driver, are also placed.

Having a look at the exterior aesthetics of the car, the MX-30 has a differently designed grille and a square shoulder line at the top of the wheel arches. Other noticeable features include the reverse-hinged rear doors that help to increase the opening ahead of the rear wheels. However, on the downside, it implies that back-seat passengers won’t be able to get out without the front door being opened.

At the heart of Mazda MX-30 lies a synchronous AC electric motor, which is fed by a 35.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The system delivers an output of 141bhp and 265Nm and if claims made my Mazda are to be believed, the MX-30 First Edition has a maximum range of 124 miles.

Performance figures are not yet officially confirmed but analyzing the size and weight of this SUV, we assume it to spark 0–62 mph in a time of between eight and 10 seconds and a top speed of around 100 mph.

This being just the First Edition model it is only offered as a pure-electric vehicle. But the MX-30’s platform offers support for a wide range of powertrains. Under the bonnet, there is enough room for electric motor and a rotary engine to bolt into it, hence, we can expect a hybrid model is not far behind.

The arrival of Mazda MX-30 into the Malaysian market is estimated in October 2020.
