Daihatsu Malaysia now includes Gran Max pickup and panel van
KUALA LUMPUR: Daihatsu has introduced the new Gran Max Euro 4 in the local market. The new model replaces the previous Euro 2 unit and is up for grab at all company's authorized dealerships.
In Malaysia, Daihatsu is offering the Gran Max in two versions - panel van and pickup. Both powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder Dual VVT engine making a maximum power of 97 hp and a peak torque of 134 Nm. It is the same mill that is used by Toyota and Perodua's passenger cars, but the output might differ. For instance, in Myvi, the said unit generates 102 hp of power and 137 Nm of torque.
Coming back to the new Gran Max, it features a 5-speed manual-only gearbox, with the panel van getting an additional option of four-speed automatic transmission. It is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle with electronic power steering on offer. The new model continues to run on 17-inch wheels as before.
MD of Daihatsu Malaysia, Arman Mahadi said, “Demand has always been encouraging for Daihatsu Gran Max as it is used in a wide variety of industries, including in construction, service, agriculture as well as in courier, delivery and logistics sectors. With this upgrade, Daihatsu intends to cater to the needs of those looking for improved fuel-efficiency and performance and to support the work and lifestyles of a variety of customers.”
Coming to the major highlight of the new model, the EURO 4 competence status. The Gran Max levels of NOx and particulate emissions. It also offers more mileage compared to the ongoing model, the company claimed figure is 12.5 kmpl from pickup version, 13.3 for MT van, and 13.5 kmpl for AT van.
New Daihatsu Gran Max fuel tank capacity stands at 43-litre and it can load up to 800 kg of cargo in pickup version and 750 kg in the van. Since the engine here is positioned under the front seat, it called for optimal front-rear weight distribution.
Daihatsu has managed to offer a decent standard safety kit with the new Gran Max. It includes - dual airbags, an anti-lock braking system, an emergency signal system, vehicle stability control, and reverse sensors.
The Daihatsu Gran Max Euro 4 is a made in Indonesia product that will retail for RM 73,164 (on-the-road without insurance) in Malaysia.
