Citroen DS rendered as a modern-day sedan

KUALA LUMPUR: Do you remember the Citroen DS? The luxury French car that was, and is still recalled for its unique design. And we won't be wrong in saying that it is the most impressive car to have entered production to date. Its exterior is equal parts of style and aerodynamics that transcend time and still manage to look modern even today. It sure is a rare thing to happen with cars. Mesmerised, with its design, automotive designer Sang Won Lee decided to create a modern-day inspiration of the Citroen DS. The rendered images can be seen on his Instagram profile that goes by the name, Sangtheowl.

We'd lie to say we weren't taken aback with Sang's take on the Citroen DS. The car in the images imbibes the original exterior but is modified in a way to look brand new. It's a rare mix of old and new, where the old design is intact but with necessary modern bits making it a practical, distinct car of today.

This new Citroen DS is all we need to fight the boredom that has taken over the automotive world. If there comes an electric Citroen DS with new technologies in the market, it'd be a welcome move that'll sure add zing to the auto arena.

While a new, modern-day Citroen DS is way into our imagination, let's get to know the car in its original form. Produced from 1955 to 1975, the Citroen DS was a luxury car sold in three body-styles - sedan, wagon, and convertible. It was a four-wheel-drive French car built to last on the country's rough roads, and at the same time, its engine capacities didn't invite high taxes - a win-win situation. The car guaranteed a smooth ride thanks to its unique hydraulic suspension system. So much so, that it was used to film horse races, as it was able to keep the camera frame still even on the harshest of terrains. The car also displayed remarkable performance in long-distance rallies; it even won the Monte Carlo Rally twice in 1959 and 1966.

So, a perfect 10/10 car with all the right elements on its side, be it styling, performance, or comfort. With Sang Won Lee's interpretation only giving us hope to see such perfect creation again.
