Citroen C5 X revealed as the brand’s new flagship model
KUALA LUMPUR: The French automaker Citroen rolled out the new C5 X as a blend of a saloon, estate, and SUV. Heavily inspired from the CXperience concept revealed in 2016, the new iteration replaces the brand’s C5 sedan and the larger C6 sedan that are not in production anymore, and thus serves as the new flagship model of the brand.
On the exterior, the Citroen C5 X’s unique X-shaped front features a large lower grille with shiny chrome trims, typical Citroen slim DRLs with bulbous headlights underneath, and a long bonnet. At the back, it gets rear LED lighting signatures, a sloping rear boot lid with an integrated lip spoiler, and pronounced rear wheel arches.
Dimensionally, the Citroen C5 X measures 4,805 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,485 mm in height. The wheelbase is also quite long at 2,785 mm, which ensures outstanding legroom for the rear passengers, says Citroen. The automaker has styled and set up the C5 X cabin with its Advanced Comfort design ethos.
The car’s dashboard gets a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen unit paired with smartphone mirroring, over-the-air updates, voice control, and a 360° Vision Surround View Camera. Included in the interior specifications are a wireless charging pad, a full-color heads-up display, and a standard panoramic sunroof. The sunroof together with large windows ensure more light in the cabin, making it feel bigger than it already is.
As for safety, it will have a Highway Driver Assist, a Level 2 driver-assistance system. Other safety bits include blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.
On the mechanical front, the C5 X will be available with two engine options - Petrol and plug-in hybrid. The PHEV will have a combination of a 1.6-liter turbo four-pot unit and an electric motor for a total system output of 225 hp.
"With C5 X, Citroën has created an ambitious, large touring vehicle, a real tool for winning over customers who are increasingly inclined to explore the world. An audacious and original proposal that truly embodies all of Citroën's expertise: innovation, care, and above everything well-being which we elevate here as a certain form of art of living," said Vincent Cobée, Citroën CEO.
The 2021 Citroen C5 X is slated to go on sale in Europe in the second half of 2021.
