Chevrolet teases eighth-generation Corvette, ahead of its debut on July 18

KUALA LUMPUR: The popular auto giant, Chevrolet has teased its eighth-generation (C8) Corvette (the successor to the C7-generation Corvette) with a short video titled “Let’s Go: The Next Generation Corvette”. Instead of having a front-engine setup like its previous gen models, the new Corvette is likely to get a mid-engine layout.

At the beginning of the video, Zora Arkus-Duntov, the race car driver is shown ready to set off in CERV I. It is a mid-engined Chevrolet vehicle’s early development prototype. Moreover, some mid-engined nameplates like Aerovette, Corvette Indy Concept, CERV II, and CERV III are also shown in the video. However, the CERV IV is absent in this video, and the main reason can be the placement of its engine.

Prior to this, Chevrolet has confirmed the arrival of the C8 Corvette. It had also revealed a camouflaged model, which featured decals printed “07.18.19” on it, hinting that the car is going to make its debut on July 18, 2019.

Based on the spy images, there will be a honeycomb grille at the front. The rear portion of the car will have taillamps along with C7 Corvette like fascia. Mechanically, the car is likely to get a 6.2-litre V8 engine under the hood. The mill will provide a maximum power of 500 hp without forced induction. The engine is expected to be mated to a Tremec TR-9007 dual-clutch transmission.

The current C7 will be in the markets well into 2022, while it is rumoured that the new C8 could be a part of Corvette line-up as the 2020 model. So, it looks like the manufacturer will sell the new car alongside the current model instead of launching it as a replacement.
