Check out the US-spec 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport SUV
KUALA LUMPUR: When it comes to cars, the US market has a somewhat different taste and liking. For instance, while others are going for a minimalistic approach, in the US the big ones sell well. It's what you call the bigger-is-better ideology and that's a reason why many automakers have US-specific models in their lineup. And mind, these cars if introduced in the Asian market, they'll have a hard time fitting in a parking space.
Today, we'll be discussing one such car, the all-new Honda Passport SUV - a car that makes the CR-V look undersized. Unlike the ladder-frame Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest, it is a unibody off-roader.
Wait, if I think the Passport is Honda's biggest SUV offering in the States because the three-row Pilot holds that tag.
To stair things a bit, Honda America updated the Passport SUV with even aggressive styling via the new TrailSport variant. Compared to the regular model, the new trim gets 10 mm wider tracks front and rear. It also gets a silver skid plate and orange accents both inside-out.
On the outside, it displays a unique grille design with a chunky bumper at both ends. The 18-inch wheels are wrapped TrailSport-specific 245/60R-18 tires.
What powers the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport?
Powering this massive, aggressive-looking SUV is a 3.5-litre V6 mill that makes a maximum power of 280 bhp along with a peak torque of 355 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Well, not too much on the power front, as the Civic Type R churns more or less the same output. The thing is the Passport is not about power, but about its sizable appeal.
It is known for its massive cargo space of 1,430-litre and can tow up to 2.3 tonnes.
2022 Honda Passport Trailsport features -
- 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
- Honda Sensing system of driver-assist features
- Rear seat & seatbelt reminder
- Amber ambient lighting
Taking care of its off-road ability is Honda's i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD, it sends up to 70 per cent of torque to the rear wheels. It also comes with four driving modes - snow, mud, sand, and paved roads.
