Check out BBR upgrade kit for Mazda MX-5
KUALA LUMPUR: BBR is the performance specialist arm of Mazda, and they have introduced two new powertrain packages for the 2019 MX-5, called the Super 200 and Super 220 packs. Both of these upgrade packs are known to provide maximum driving excitement without any loss of reliability and driving manners.
Talking first about the Super 200 upgrade kit, it comes with BBR custom StarChip ECU remap, four-to-one high-flow stainless steel exhaust manifold, and cold air intake system with K&N high-flow air filter. Once the parts mentioned above are fitted on to the MX-5, the car can churn out an additional 18 hp of power and 14 Nm of torque from its 2.0-litre SykActiv-G engine. Thus, bringing the total output to 205 hp at 7,300 rpm and 224 Nm at 3,950 rpm.
The Super 220, on the other hand, brings along high-performance valve springs, camshafts, and retainers. This setup pumps the performance figure to 224 hp and 217 Nm. Though the torque figure here is lower than that developed under Super 200, however, the 217 Nm in Super 220 is available from 3,500 to 7,500 rpm that’s lower than what the former kit offers.
As for the pricing, the Super 200 is available for £1,445 that’s approximately RM 7.6k and is available at BBR’s HQ in Brackey as a drive in and drive out conversion. For overseas customers, there’s a self-installed package as well costing £1,245 i.e., RM 6.6k without value added tax. The Super 220 is tagged at £2,895 (RM 15k), and its self-install kit will set you back by £2,235 (RM 12k). It is to be noted that BBR is providing 3-years extendable warranty packages for both the upgrades kit.
Want more? Well, BBR won’t disappoint you as it is also offering a range of other upgrades that includes chassis enhancements and beefier brakes. Other additions include - a 2.5-inch centre exhaust section with a selection of silencers, and performance catalytic converter.
“This is the first time that over 100 hp per litre has been achievable from a normally-aspirated Mazda MX-5 motor without internal modifications. It’s an amazing accomplishment for a predominately standard engine. Additional development has seen BBR achieve more than 110 hp per litre with the inclusion of our bespoke performance camshafts, which is astonishing for a road-friendly engine that now also produces over 203 Nm from just 3000 rpm. As Mazda improves the stock Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre petrol engine, extracting useful power gains from normally aspirated tuning becomes more of a challenge, but that makes the end results even more rewarding,” said Neil Mckay, Managing Director, BBR.
