Celebrate Porsche 911 with a Sky-High Sculpture

Kuala Lumpur: Just how do you make yourself stand out of the rest?! Celebrate your flagship car like a Boss?! Putting it almost vertical on a futuristic pedestal sky high, making a lasting impression – That may be one way of doing it.

Three iconic Porsche 911 cars are planned to tower above landscape. Porsche AG has erected a new landmark at its Sttutgart headquartes in Germany. Gerry Judah designed this special Sky-High sculpture, that defies gravity and holds together three 911 cars – the 1963 911, the 1973 911 Carrera RS and the 2013 911.

Gerry Judah, a British artist wanted to create a piece that precisely epitomize the spirit of the Porsche 911 and the Festival of Speed. He described about the sculpture, “The 911 is a fantastic shape that can’t be deconstructed or embellished, so in this context, the sculpture had to provide the right platform for the car to soar up and shine in the sky.” The designer made a series of other car-themed installations for the same festival, over the years, like Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz.

The sculpture is made up of three arrow-shaped structures and stands 24 metres high, measuring about 10m around the base. Respective setting of the three steel bars give off the appearance of the cars shooting into the sky. All 22 tons each of welded steel leg cleverly balance an extremely narrow base. Finished in a clean white coating, the sculpture maintains a simple, yet refined persona.

Porsche presented it to the public with an evening lightshow, a film showcase and some vehicle choreography. The art work does not break any existing traffic or disturb the existing infrastructure and is to be performed during the 2015 summer holidays.

“The sculpture is more than a work of art. It is also a symbol for our company’s close ties with Stuttgart,” said Matthias Mueller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, said during his address at the event. Besides, Porsche accumulated investment of €1.1 billion (RM5.2 billion) for facilities in and around Stuttgart over the years. An additional €1.1 billion has been designated for the safeguarding of locations in Zuffenhausen.

Undoubtedly, the cutting-edge sculpture surprises the very essence of power and speed, reminding us that sky is no longer the limit. The idea of speed and performance was this time perfectly surprised through height, orientation and last, but not least, the car models chosen for the project.
