KUALA LUMPUR: BYD has recently outpaced Tesla to claim the coveted title of the world's largest electric vehicle seller. This success is attributed to the company’s expansive and affordable electric vehicle lineup and robust battery and charging infrastructure in the home country. Well, the Chinese automaker is now aiming at a new market i.e. ultra-luxury car market.

With the Yangwang U9, BYD is poised to disrupt the high-end automotive sector traditionally dominated by established luxury car manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. It carries a whopping price tag of CNY 1,680,000 (approximately equal to RM 1.1 million).
The U9 is powered by four motors (one for each wheel), each generating a maximum power of 326 PS. Together, the setup delivers 1,306 PS and 1,680 Nm of peak torque. The power is enough to propel the BYD supercar from zero to 100 kmph in just 2.36 seconds and reach a top speed of 309 kmph. That's faster than both the Ferrari SF90 and Bugatti Chiron, which clock in at 2.5 seconds, and the Porsche 911 Turbo S, at 2.6 seconds.
The e4 motor setup is linked to an 80 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery pack, offering a cruising range of 465 km on the CLTC cycle. It supports 800V architecture and can charge from 30% to 80% in 10 minutes.
The Yangwang U9 also features the brand’s Disus X suspension system, which enables it to drive on three wheels, jump, or even dance. Isn't that cool?
The YangWang U9 measures 4966 mm in length, 2029 mm in height, and 1295 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. In terms of design, it has a striking appearance with its dynamic slashes, scoops, and butterfly doors. It features unique "interstellar" headlights at the front and full-width tail lights at the rear. Standard appointments include an active rear spoiler and diffuser, while optional additions include a fixed swan-neck wing and a dorsal fin.
The U9 rides on massive 21-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero tires, supported by carbon ceramic discs and six-piston front and four-piston rear callipers.
Among the key interior highlights are - a near vertical central console, a 10.25-inch mini-LED digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch portrait infotainment unit, a 127-colour ambient lighting system, a 12-speaker Dynaudio Evidence Platinum sound system, and 14-way power-adjustable seats
