The Shark features a sophisticated petrol-electric powertrain that combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors—one on each axle—yielding a total output of 435 PS. The BYD Shark's electric motors are powered by a 29.5 kWh Blade lithium-ion battery, offering an electric-only range of up to 100 km based on China's NEDC testing standards.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Shark achieves 7.5 liters per 100 km in hybrid mode, according to the NEDC combined cycle. When maximizing the electric driving range, fuel consumption can drop to as low as 1.5 liters per 100 km.

With a full fuel tank and a fully charged battery, the Shark can travel up to 840 km.

For charging, the battery can be replenished using a DC fast charger at up to 40 kW, taking about 20 minutes to go from 30 to 80 percent charge.

By avoiding diesel power and embracing advanced hybrid technology, the BYD Shark positions itself as a formidable rival to other hybrid pickup trucks in the market, particularly the highly anticipated Ford Ranger PHEV.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the BYD Shark features a modern glass cockpit with a large 12.8-inch center display and a 10.25-inch LCD screen serving as the digital instrument cluster.
