BYD Shark 6 pickup debuts in Thailand; Will it come to Malaysia?

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD has introduced its new electrified pickup truck, the Shark 6 (known as the Shark in other markets), at the ongoing 2025 Bangkok Motor Show. Bookings for this latest BYD model are now underway in the Land of Smiles.

Dimensions and capacities
Built on BYD's DMO platform, the pickup truck has a length of 5,457 mm, a width of 1,917 mm, and a height of 1,925 mm. The wheelbase is estimated at 3,260 mm. These dimensions make it larger than its rivals, including the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and Isuzu D-Max.
The vehicle has a towing capacity of 2,500 kg, and a payload capacity is up to 835 kg. The truck bed has a volume of 1450 litres.
Drivetrain
The Thai-spec BYD Shark 6 comes equipped with a Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) Super Hybrid drivetrain comprising a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine and two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. The engine acts as a generator to charge the battery and power the motors.
The front motor kicks out a maximum power of 231 PS and a peak torque of 310 Nm, while the rear is tuned to deliver 204 PS and 340 Nm. Together, the setup generates a total output of 436 PS and 650 Nm, enabling the vehicle to hit the century sprint in 5.7 seconds.

Also part of the set is a 29.58 kWh blade battery pack, which supports AC charging at up to 7 kW. The pickup offers an electric-only range of up to 100 km (NEDC cycle). However, in the hybrid mode, backed by its 60-litre fuel tank, the combined range of the PHEV is estimated at 800 km. Drivers can manage how the hybrid system uses energy and choose their preferred off-road mode.
