BYD Seal U SUV introduced - Larger than Atto 3, 500km range, tentative price from RM215k

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD is set to elevate the electric vehicle (EV) landscape globally even further with the introduction of the BYD SEAL U, starting with a significant expansion of its European portfolio.

Priced from RM215k, this all-electric SUV is crafted for the discerning family, merging spaciousness, comfort, and cutting-edge technology with environmental consciousness.

Slated for release this month, the SEAL U emerges as a practical choice for the D-segment, offering two distinct trim levels each boasting unique drivetrain configurations that deliver exceptional performance.

They've introduced two distinct variants: the Comfort, equipped with a 71.8 kWh battery delivering up to 420 km of range and the Design, featuring an 87 kWh battery that provides up to 500 km of range both under the WLTP test protocol.

Central to its innovative prowess is the cobalt-free BYD Blade Battery, celebrated for its exceptional safety, durability, and high energy density. 

Fast charging capabilities mean the battery can replenish from 30% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime on the go. But to be specific, AC charging capabilities are capped at 11 kW, whereas DC charging speeds can soar to 115 kW for the Comfort model and reach up to 140 kW for the Design model.

The BYD SEAL U comes impressively equipped with a suite of standard features designed for both performance and convenience. Among these, the vehicle sports 19-inch alloy wheels that not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also improve its handling and stability.

For connectivity, the SEAL U is a tech enthusiast's dream, offering an intelligent cockpit system that includes smart connectivity options and leading infotainment capabilities. This includes seamless integration with smartphones via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensuring drivers stay connected on the go.

The BYD SEAL U enhances connectivity by allowing users to control several vehicle features remotely through the BYD app on a smartphone or other mobile devices.

This includes locking and unlocking doors, opening and closing windows, adjusting climate control, seat heating/ventilation, and using the flash lights and horn. It also lets users check the battery's remaining charge time and range. Additionally, the app supports unlocking the car with NFC key functionality.

One of the standout features of the SEAL U is its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which allows the car to act as a mobile power source, providing electricity to external devices and equipment - a handy feature for outdoor adventures or emergency situations.

Additionally, the SEAL U is outfitted with LED lighting throughout, including LED headlights, daytime running lights, and fog lights, ensuring optimal visibility in all driving conditions. 

In terms of dimensions, the SEAL U positions itself as a formidable contender in the SUV market, closely mirroring the size of the Proton X70. It measures 4,785 mm in length, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,668 mm high, with a generous wheelbase of 2,765 mm ensuring ample interior space.

Powering the SEAL U are two efficient drivetrain configurations; the Comfort version features a 71.8 kWh battery providing up to 420 km of range, while the Design version steps up with an 87 kWh battery for up to 500 km of range. Both models are propelled by a powerful electric motor, delivering swift acceleration and a top speed of 175 km/h.

Per the official BYD Europe website, the Seal U boasts an array of six exterior colour options, complemented by two elegantly curated interior upholstery color schemes, offering a personalized touch to match any style preference.

Final pricing will be announced in the run-up to the market launch. The BYD SEAL U will be offered with a 6 year/150,000 km full manufacturer’s warranty, 8 year/200,000 km warranty on at least 70% of the battery’s original capacity, as well as 8 year/150,000 km warranty on the electric motor as standard.
