BYD introduces a new small EV in China, the Yuan Up
KUALA LUMPUR: Warren Buffett-backed BYD is setting new electric vehicle sales records around the globe, giving Tesla a good run for its money. Not only that, the Chinese automaker has also been expanding its vehicle lineup with the introduction of new EVs now and then. Last month, BYD revealed a new electric luxury sedan, the Yangwang U7, and now it has pulled the wraps of a new small electric SUV called the Yuan Up.

Set to go on sale in China next month, the BYD Yuan Up is expected to be priced around CNY 100,000 (approximately equal to RM 66k).The new BYD EV underpins the same e-Platform 3.0 that is also used by the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. For those who are not aware, the Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus in China, and another Yuan model called the Yuan Pro, is available in the Chinese market. The Yuan models are part of the company’s Dynasty series, which includes five models: Han, Song, Qin, Tang, and Yuan.
Dimensionally, the Yuan Up measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. In terms of design, it features the brand’s updated Dragon front fascia with slim LED headlights. Among the other key design highlights are blackened pillars, claddings along the lower body, flush door handles, full-width tail light, a generously sized sunroof, and five-spoke wheels.
According to CarNewsChina, the EV will be offered in two electric motor setups tuned to generate 95 PS and 177 PS. The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery will also be available in two capacities - 32 kWh and 45.1 kWh, offering a driving range of up to 301 km and 401 km respectively.
