The BYD M6 MPVTo commemorate this success, they organised the ‘BYD Dream Drive Melaka 2024,’ a special convoy event exclusively for BYD owners.
Melaka was chosen as the destination, aligning with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China—a location steeped in historical connections with China that stretch back to the 15th century.

The convoy featured over 60 BYD vehicles, kicking off from the Ara Damansara showroom. The 2-day, 1-night road trip offered BYD owners the opportunity to connect and celebrate the brand’s growing presence in Malaysia.
In Melaka, participants were treated to a cultural experience with a stop at Encore Melaka, where they watched the "Puteri Hang Li Po Musical Theatre." T
his performance, inspired by the historical relationship between Sultan Mansur Shah and the Ming Dynasty princess Hang Li Po, was a fitting tribute to the long-standing ties between Malaysia and China.
Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Southeast Asia for Sime Darby Motors, commented on the occasion, saying, "“The milestone reflected the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the region and Sime Darby’s strong position as a leader in EV. Our commitment to providing the best experience and services through this strategic
partnership with BYD has contributed to this success".
Adding to this, Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, stated, "“This milestone reflects the trust and support of our customers who embrace the future of mobility with BYD. It’s been an incredible journey with Sime Darby Motors and we look forward to elevating sustainable driving experiences in Malaysia.”
BYD Malaysia is now focused on achieving its next goal—another 10,000 vehicle sales—in a shorter time span, as the company continues to expand its footprint across the country.
With its innovative electric vehicles, BYD is dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of consumers while pushing the boundaries of technology and sustainability.
As the leading electric vehicle brand in Malaysia, BYD’s success can be attributed to its strong focus on customer satisfaction and network development.
This expansion reflects the growing acceptance of EVs in Malaysia. During the celebration, Sime Darby Motors also spotlighted the growing BYD network in Malaysia, which now includes 26 showrooms across the nation, featuring 16 BYD 3S centres and 10 BYD 1S centres. By the end of 2024, the company plans to have 30 showrooms to provide customers with accessible and reliable support.
Sime Darby Motors expressed its gratitude to BYD car owners for their continued support in driving Malaysia’s shift towards a more sustainable, electric future.
Looking ahead, BYD’s immediate future in Malaysia is set to include the introduction of the BYD M6, an electric MPV designed to deliver value, eco-friendliness, and spaciousness for Malaysian families eager to explore the world of electrified vehicles.
The M6 made its global debut at the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show and has since launched in Thailand, with six and seven-seater configurations in Indonesia and only a six-seater variant in Thailand. The seating configuration for Malaysia remains to be confirmed.
Its design is inspired by BYD's Dynasty Series, showcasing a Dragon Face 3.0 grille, LED headlights, and stylish details like wing-shaped front bumper inserts and full-width tail lights. Inside, it boasts a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, faux leather seats, and advanced features like a panoramic glass roof and 360-degree camera.
Powering the BYD M6 will likely be a single motor, with outputs of either 163 PS or 204 PS, paired with BYD's Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The standard 55.4 kWh battery offers an NEDC range of 420 km, while the larger 71.8 kWh battery in higher trims provides up to 530 km.
Safety features include six airbags, stability control, and advanced driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.
The BYD M6 is expected to appeal to families looking for an eco-conscious yet practical vehicle. Stay tuned for updates on its official launch in Malaysia.
