BYD Atto 3 EV set to launch in Malaysia next month
KUALA LUMPUR: After marking its official entry in Malaysia back in September, the Chinese automaker BYD is now set to launch its first electric car, the Atto 3, in the local market. The company has just announced the EV’s launch date, timings, and venue and is inviting the public to be a part of the 3-day grand launch ceremony.

As a brief recap, the upcoming Atto 3 is a C-segment SUV that will be sold via Sime Darby Motors in Malaysia. It will come equipped with a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor paired either with a 49.92-kWh or a 60.48-kWh Blade EV battery pack. The former offers a range of 345 km while the latter allows the EV to cruise for 420 km on a single charge. With a standard 7 kW AC charger, the EV will juice up in 10 hours, whereas an 80 kW DC socket can complete 80% of the task in just 50 minutes.
The Atto 3 measures 4,455 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, 1,615 mm in height and carries a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. The equipment kit of the EV is likely to comprise LED headlights and tail lights, 18-inch alloy rims, a sunroof, 12.8-inch central touchscreen unit, a 5.0-inch instrument panel, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, electronic parking brake, powered front seats, and advanced driver assistance systems.

The EV is expected to price between RM 150k to RM 170k in the local market, which makes it a direct rival to the Hyundai Kona Electric (RM 149,888 and RM 199,888), Nissan Leaf (RM 175,800), and Renault Zoe (RM 163,000 and RM 175,000). The list of affordable EVs will also include the Ora Good Cat soon, which is also estimated to be priced at around RM 150k in Malaysia.
After launch, the BYD Atto 3 deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023.
