The electric SUV was crash tested by Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) and ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Programme) last month and was awarded with a five-star safety rating. However, in the latter assessment programme, the rating came only for the New Zealand market with Australia remaining unrated on account of a review by federal regulators.
The matter involves the placement of child restraint anchor points that also led the Chinese automaker to suspend the vehicle’s sales for a few weeks. Well, the issue has been resolved now and ANCAP has finally announced a 5-star safety rating for the BYD Atto 3 rating in Australia. The full-star rating is applicable to the models that will be built from 21 November 2022.
“The extension of the five-star ANCAP safety rating to newly-built and updated vehicles supplied in Australia will be welcome news to new and existing Atto 3 owners,” said ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg.
The category-wise points received by the Chinese EV are -
- Adult occupant protection - 91%
- Child occupant protection - 84%
- Vulnerable road user protection - 69%
- Safety assist - 80%
Speaking about the safety features, the EV possesses a long list of active and passive safety systems. These include seven airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, a traction control system, a stability control system, parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, a 360-degree surround view camera, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and lane keep assist.
