BYD Atto 3: Detailed in pics
In collaboration with Sime Darby Motors, the Chinese automaker BYD has kickstarted its journey in Malaysia. The very first BYD model on sale is the Atto 3, which is a C-segment electric SUV similarly sized to the Proton X70.
Two variants of the BYD Atto 3 on offer are Standard Range and Extended Range, powered by different battery packs offering WLTP-claimed drive range of 345 km and 420 km, respectively. You can check out the full variant-wise breakdown here as today we will be discussing the exterior and interior design and features of the EV with the help of images. So, without further ado, let’s get started.
The exterior design of the electric SUV looks dynamic and sporty with interesting elements which start right away with a flat, sporty nose featuring a closed chrome grille bracketed by sleek and modern headlights. Giving the front fascia the required width and visual weight are faux fog-light sections. The automaker calls this design philosophy the ‘Dragon Face 3.0’
The front lights are a combination of crystal LED Combination headlights and a strip of LED daytime running light. The headlamps offer a wide beam of light exposure for adequate visibility and a great night driving experience.
The Atto 3 boasts a powerful and dynamic waistline along with a sports wheel hub and ripple D-Pillars with fish-scale-like effect. It rides on 17-inch wheels as standard which are wrapped in 215/60 R17 rubbers. The top-spec variant, on the contrary, comes fitted with differently designed 18-inch wheels shod with 215/55 tyres.
Accentuating the SUV’s rear design is a sporty spoiler and ‘bird wing’ like one-piece LED tail lights strip. Above the illuminated bar lies the company’s name “Build Your Dream” in chrome finishing.
As mentioned earlier, the EV is about the size of the X70. The precise measurements are 4,455 mm length, 2,050 mm width, 1,615 mm height, and 2,720 mm wheelbase. In comparison to the Proton SUV, it is 64 mm longer, 219 mm wider, 79 mm shorter and has a 50 mm longer wheelbase.
BYD Malaysia offers the Atto 3 in five colour shades, including Parkour Red, Ski White, Surf Blue, Boulder Grey, and Forest Green.
For carrying the luggage safely and appropriately, the car has a large boot area, which is measured at 555 litres The rear seat can be foldable flat expanding this space to up to 1338 litres.
Hop inside the sporty and youthful cabin of the BYD Atto 3 and you will be welcomed by a dual-tone dash featuring multiple layers and curves. It exhibits a sense of passion and energy with the help of modern technology and quirky elements.
At the centre of the dash lies a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which is rotatable thanks to the Adaptive Rotating Suspension Electronic Pad. With just a touch of the finger, you can rotate it in landscape or portrait mode as you like. This advanced head unit also comes integrated with Android Auto and AppleCarplay connectivity and voice assistant.
Offering a clear display of all the necessary information about the vehicle to the driver is a 5,0-inch digital instrument cluster.
The EV is equipped with automatic single-zone air conditioning as standard that has dumbbell-style vents in the centre and edges of the dashboard. This offers the cockpit a sporty and playful stance.
Adding to the quirky bits are red guitar-like strings on the panels of the doors. These flexible strings not only make the whole interior look rhythmic but are also functional as you can strum them to create your own melody. However, you can also use these strings to hold bottles and other stuff.
Coming to the sound system, BYD equipped the car with a Dirac sound system mated to eight speakers, including the round ones positioned below the quirky door handles.
The central console also features some really interesting stuff, including a unique gear lever which is assumed to be inspired by an aircraft, a treadmill-style armrest, an electronic parking brake, and a wireless phone charger.
You can also light up the cabin as per your mood thanks to the multi-coloured ambient lighting system. The interactive system automatically changes the lights with music. It is to be noted that the multi-coloured one comes only with the top-spec Atto 3 as the automaker offers single-coloured lighting as standard.
The EV is equipped with ergonomically-designed seats offering the occupants a comfortable ride. These are covered in faux leather upholstery. The driver seat can be electrically adjusted in six ways, while the front passenger seat can only be done in four ways.
Offering an apparent view of the surrounding beauty to the passengers sitting inside is a vibrant Panoramic Sunroof. Measuring 1,261 mm in length and 849 mm in width, the roof comes with an Electric Slide and Anti-pinch feature.
So, that was a detailed look at the BYD Atto 3 EV, priced between RM 149,800 and RM 167,800 in the Malaysian market.
