Borgward BX5 launched and on sale in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: We recently stated that semi-automated assembly test runs for BX5 has started and now the compact SUV is on sale in Malaysia. Also, the Borgward latest car was spotted at Juro Auto City, Penang with its price list on the roll. The said crossover would be sold as a CKD model with buyers getting to choose from five trims and two powertrains split between them. The Borgward BX5 price range starts from RM 118,950 (on-the-road without insurance).
As mentioned above, the Borgward BX5 specs sheet shows two engine options - a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder unit putting out 150 PS at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. Next up is a 2.0-litre 4-pot mill producing 224 PS of power at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 300 Nm at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm.
Both the powerplants are paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox (a standard option). While the smaller 1.4-litre mill is offered with a front-wheel drivetrain, the 2.0-litre is available as all-wheel-drive option.
The 1.4-litre mill powers the 1.4T and 1.4T (TS) variants, they are priced at RM 118,950 and RM 130,950, respectively. The equipment list for both the trims is loaded with automatic halogen headlamps, LED taillights, LED DRLs, single-zone air-conditioning, keyless entry, cruise control, keyless entry, a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and built-in toll reader.
As for the upper-hand, the TS trim comes with what's called the TS Line package along with built-in toll reader, diamond front grille, centre console cover, and red door sills. It also gets security window tint and exterior door visors.
On the other hand, the 2.0-litre mill rests under 2.0T, 2.0T (CRS), and 2.0T (TS) models. The three here tallies the equipment list of the 1.4T and 1.4T (TS). However, it comes with a few improvements over the former like a remotely operated powered tailgate, front parking sensors, dual-zone air-con system with rear vents, and power-folding side mirror with puddle lamps. As for the price tag, the 2.0T is priced at RM 138,950, while the 2.0T (TS) will set you back by RM 150,950.
The range-topping 2.0T (CRS) misses out on the TS Line package but gets the uprated floor mats. Other items this trim’s specs sheet include are a matte color wrapping and glass coating.
On the safety front, all the BX5 variants come with electronic differential system, six airbags (front, side, and curtain), hill start assist, vehicle stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. It’s only the 2.0-litre models that get hill descent control.
The price also includes Borgward Privileges that covers five years free service (including labour and parts), roadside assistance (with free towing), an eight-year/unlimited mileage warranty, RedBlack Premier (cashback for five years), and a Borgward RedBlack Card for two years of free petrol.
