Borgward BX5 being tested on the roads, Malaysia launch in 2019
KUALA LUMPUR: Borgward is gearing up to launch the BX5 SUV in Malaysia. According to the reports, the SUV is undergoing final road tests and is all set to obtain a green signal from the government. The five-seater SUV has been designed by the Borgward Design Centre in Renningen. It was first previewed in Malaysia in April, earlier this year alongside the BX7.
The showcased Borgward BX5 was equipped with a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which could generate 190 PS of maximum power and 280 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission was present to deliver the power to all four wheels. The SUV also has a less powerful sibling in China which features a 1.4-litre turbo engine good enough for 150 PS of power and a peak torque of 250 Nm.
The list of features include power steering, power windows, LED DRLs, LED tail lights, single-zone air-conditioning, fabric seats, AUX & Bluetooth connectivity, 8-inch touchscreen, parking sensors, alloy wheels and reverse camera. The high-end models come with dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, panoramic sunroof, leather seats, cruise control, and automatic xenon headlights.
In terms of safety, the SUV comes equipped with front and side airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, traction control, auto hold, and tyre pressure monitoring system. If we talk about the dimensions, it measures 4,483 mm in length, 1,876 mm in width, 1,677 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,685 mm. The exact specifications and pricing of the Malaysia-bound variant are yet to be known. However, reports hint that the BX5 will be locally assembled and could be priced under RM 100,000.
