BMW Malaysia 2021 sales numbers are out; the brand remains No.1 in the segment
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has finally released its sales figures achieved in Malaysia last year. The German automotive group sold a total of 10,500 units in the local market across its three brands - BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad.

The best-selling BMW model in Malaysia in 2021 was the 3 Series with 2,400 units.Although the figure is 4.7% less than the 11,016 vehicles the company managed to sell in 2020, it remains the No.1 car brand in the premium segment in Malaysia for a second consecutive year.
Looking at the sales of different brands, BMW Cars accounted for 80% of sales that’s 8,400 units, deliveries of MINI cars amounted to 940 units and BMW Motorrad grabbed a total number of 1,100 units.
These numbers help BMW Cars to get a 47% market share of the premium segment. The best-selling model remains the 3 Series with 2,400 units, followed by the 2 Series Gran Coupe and 5 Series with 1,270 and 1,150 deliveries, respectively. It is to be noted that all these top-performing BMW cars are locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah.
The BMW X lineup also contributed to the sales significantly. Out of the total 3,200 units, the X1 led the way with 960 deliveries, followed by the X5 with 850 units.
Coming to MINI top-performing models, here the Countryman took the tag of the best-selling model once again with 68% of sales. This year, MINI delivers 16% electrified models as compared to 7% sold last year.
BMW Motorrad, on the other hand, grabbed the No.1 position in the category of high-powered bikes (above 500-cc). Mostly delivered models fall in the Adventure group with the R 1250 GS Adventure as top-performing. The sales of 159 Touring bikes was led by the R 1250 RT.

“2021 was also the year of our electrification offensive, for us as well as the BMW Group worldwide, and with the amazing response we have received in Malaysia for the all-new BMW i models, we are confident that the electric future we envision for Malaysia will soon become reality. We are ready for it and so is Malaysia as we now steer and drive into 2022 fully electrified,” he added.
