Let’s take a detailed look at the ultra-luxurious BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and what it offers in the gallery below:
Exterior
Being the most luxurious sports coupé BMW has ever built, the 8 Series Gran Coupe is outfitted with the M Sport Package as well as M Aerodynamics Package that not only add to its aggressive styling but also seals the vehicle completely underneath.
On the front, the iconic kidney grille and large M Sport air intakes grab all the attention, however, we cannot ignore BMW laser headlights which are Integrated with high-beam assistants. These are the most slender headlights of all BMW models, providing clear definition to the frontal appearance of the car.
Highlighting the vehicle’s Gran Turismo feel is the roofline’s flowing transition into the rear, whereas elevating the visual impact of the C-pillar and fin is the given BMW Hofmeister kink.
On the sides, we can see frameless doors which are perfectly paired with 20-inch light-alloy wheels featuring Y-spoke style 728 M Bicolour with mixed tyres and runflat tyres.
Towards the rear, the car gets full-LED tail lights with stylized L-shape and smoked glass cover along with exhaust tailpipes that flank the M Sport package diffuser.
Interior
The stunning exterior of the BMW 840i Gran Coupé is complemented with an equally luxurious interior. To begin with, the dashboard and M Sport steering wheel are wrapped in leather along with fine-wood and ash grain gray-metallic high-gloss trimmings and ‘CraftedClarity’ glass elements.
The seats are covered with the most exclusive leather i.e. BMW Individual fine-grain “Merino’ upholstery in Ivory White/Night Blue Bicolour with elegant contrast stitching.
Both the driver and front passenger seats have integrated headrests and active seat ventilation while the rear seats are provided with a moulded single-seat appearance. Also, the rear passengers enjoy a sense of space unparalleled in other BMW coupés so far thanks to an extended wheelbase of 20 cm. Also, there are roller sunblinds for protection from the sun and heat.
Further, a panoramic glass roof creates a light and airy ambiance that makes the coupe feel even more spacious.
In terms of hi-tech screens, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe gets a Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel and a 10.25-inch Control Display in the centre console. This system runs with BMW Operating System 7.0. It can be operated by touch, natural voice interaction via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, iDrive Controller, and BMW Gesture Control. It is paired with 464-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system that has 16 speakers, BMW Connected Package Professional, and Apple CarPlay.
The car is also equipped with the BMW Head-Up Display that additionally projects information relevant to driving into the driver’s field of vision without distraction.
BMW also offers an Experience Mode system with the car that enables the passengers to change the interior ambience according to their mood. The three individual modes are Expressive, Wellbeing, and Executive, which involves a coordinated interplay of different interior functions like AC, seat heating, light, and music.
Under the BMW Personal CoPilot umbrella, the luxury sedan features the Driving Assistant Professional which includes the systems like Cross-traffic Warning, Lane Change Warning, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Speed Limit Assist, Steering, and Lane Control Assistant, and Forward Collision Warning with braking function (pedestrians and cyclists).
Engine
Powering this luxurious sedan is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line TwinPower Turbo engine that generates a maximum power of 340 hp at 5,000 - 6,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 500 Nm at 1,600 - 4,500 rpm. It is mated to an advanced eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and BMW xDrive rear-wheel-drive system.
This setup propels the sedan from zero to 100 kmph in 5.2 seconds (fastest in its segment) with a top speed of 250 kmph. It has a combined fuel consumption of 7.9 litres per 100 km (12.65 kmpl) and combined carbon output of 180 grams per km.
