Bentley Mulsanne 6.75 Edition production halted due to COVID-19
KUALA LUMPUR: In January this year, Bentley announced the limited-run Bentley Mulsanne 6.75 Edition, which is the last model of the long-running Mulsanne range of cars. Thirty examples of the model are slated to be produced by the end of the second quarter, which now seems to be delayed because of the pandemic outbreak in the world.
The limited-run model will sign-off the 11-year production run of Mulsanne sedan as well as mark the end of the V8 6.75-litre engine that was in production from the last sixty years.
To control the spread of the virus, the factory located in Crewe is still closed. Bentley says the production will resume once workers return to the factory, and then completed cars will undergo a 600-item quality check before delivering to the customers. Thus, it is expected to end in summer now.
Chris Craft, sales and marketing boss of Bentley, said that the company has no immediate plans to replace the model and confirmed "redeploying of all manufacturing colleagues who currently work on the Mulsanne to other areas of the business".
Mulsanne 6.75 Edition will be created by the firm’s Mulliner customization department. On the outside, it gets dark-tinted components visible on the chrome grille, windows, exhaust tips, Flying B bonnet ornament, and lower body trim. The 21-inch alloy wheels come with gloss black sections and engine intake is also garnished in black. Moreover, the engine number plaque will be signed by the firm’s CEO, Adrian Hallmark.
Inside the cabin, it gets silver accents, contrast stitching and piping, and four leather color choices - Newmarket Tan, Foreglow, Beluga, and Imperial Blue. Besides this, the headrests get a 6.75 Edition logo, which is also positioned in the puddle lights, engine bay, and exterior.
It is based on the Mulsanne Speed as a starting point; thus V8 engine generates 530 PS of maximum power and 1,100 Nm of peak torque.
After the Mulsanne, which is the flagship sedan for the firm, the new Flying Spur will become the new Bentley’s flagship sedan.
