Audi R8 Green Hell, more potent version of the supercar
KUALA LUMPUR: Audi R8’s future is currently uncertain, but it hasn’t stopped the German carmaker from giving it a fresh lease of life. Recently, Audi filed a trademark hinting towards a more powerful version of the supercar in question.
Called the R8 Green Hell, a name that certainly takes after the notoriously dangerous Nurburgring. Also, the Green Hell moniker could hint at a more focused and track-oriented version of the R8.
In the past, Audi won the 24 Hours Nurburgring race five times. The automaker was on the top of the podium in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
Two years ago, Audi’s Sport’s boss Oliver Hoffman said that the company’s performance division that he is handling has a few good ideas for a ‘more extreme R8’. We are not sure if he was referring to the R8 Green Hell, but back then, he did mention that the V10 machine would take inspiration from the GT3 car while remaining fully street-legal.
If this R8 is GT3-inspired, expect the supercar’s engine to go on a diet and welcome the possibility of a bit more potent 5.5-liter FSI mill. It churns out 612 hp in the Performance version, and the delivers 631 hp in the Huracan Evo. So, there’s room for the Audi sports car to gain 19 hp.
We expect the Green Hell version to be stripped-down and lightweight. It might also borrow inspiration from the LMS EVO that won the 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring. We are also expecting aerodynamic enhancements like vortex generator, a wide rear wing, splitters, or ever canards. However, it is possible that that the R8 Green Heel won’t be as hardcore as the LMS EVO, as Audi might be planning for a road-legal car.
On the other hand, it might be a limited edition model with a minor power upgrade as it was previously reported that Audi’s first supercar could arrive in a few years. The R8 Green Hell might be the beginning of something special if that’s the case.
