Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback received updates for 2021
KUALA LUMPUR: The Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback are the brand’s fully electric models that offer refined SUV designs, with everyday utility and distinctive road presence. For 2021, the electric SUVs received a number of new equipment features, including faster charging, a new steering wheel, and larger 22-inch alloy wheels.
Starting with the new charger, the e-tron SUV already features a fast charger with direct current (DC), but now Audi brings on board faster charging with alternating current (AC). The second on-board charger that “doubles the power from 11 kW to as much as 22 kW” comes as an option for the ‘55’ trims and will also be available for the ‘50’ and e-tron S from mid-2021 in Europe. Also, the standard mode 3 cable is now converted to support 22 kW for charging at public terminals.
Offered for home garages, the new charging system comprises an operating unit with a 5-inch touch display and a wall-mount and can be used remotely with the myAudi app. The company claims that the system can charge the e-tron 55 and e-tron 55 Sportback in less than five hours. The previous 11-kW charging system takes 8.5 hours for the same. If a solar panel system is available at home, the 2021 Audi e-tron can also be charged by the electricity generated by that system.
Another update is the new steering wheel whose sensors are now much more sensitive to the touch enabling better detection of hands for the adaptive-cruise assist system. The drivers will only need to touch it lightly once per minute to keep the system active, however, they will be fully responsible for steering the SUV. The high-end system also features a lane-centering assist.
Coming to the alloy wheels, the 2021 e-tron range rides on 20-inch wheels as standard while the 21- and 22-inch sizes are available as options. The largest set comes with a titanium grey finish and a five-spoke design with 10.5Jx22 wheels and 285/35 series tyres.
The 2021 Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback are now available to order in the international market.
