Apple CEO Tim Cook Declares: Radical revamp in the Auto Industry
Kuala Lumpur: The rumor about Apple's plan to plunge in the automotive world besides mere provision of Carplay Infotainment System quietened after a confirmation at the Wall Street Journal's WSJD Live Conference. The iPhone & iPad creator not once remarked on a pretended autonomous electric vehicle program, however CEO Tim Cook's clue indicates something.
FYI: (CarPlay is Apple’s automotive software that’s being installed in cars across the world and essentially brings a car-suitable iPhone homescreen to your vehicle’s infotainment system. This includes the ability to send and receive texts, make calendar appointments and use Apple Maps through Siri. Currently only a few models by Ferrari, Skoda, Mitsubishi and Hyundai support CarPlay in Australia)
Tim Cook stated that the automotive industry is prepared for a radical revamp and not merely a step-up change.
There are additional full or hybrid electric vehicles invading in the marketplace, driver-less technology is been majorly invested by the enormous car producers. These are the sectors that Cook views as the next footstep for cars.
“Software becomes an increasingly important component of the car of the future. Autonomous driving becomes much more important. And so a lot of the major technologies in the car shift. Electrification, etc – they shift from today’s combustion engine-centric kind of focus. And so it would seem like there will be massive change in that industry, massive change.” Cook said.
Just commenting on the industry as an observer or is that a hint at things to come from the Apple? Cook retreated back to in-car connectivity.
“As we look at it, what we really want in the – hopefully in the short term – is, we’d like people as they enter their car to have an iPhone experience in their car,” Cook told the WSJD crowd. “We’ll see what we do in the future,” he added
Off lately, WSJD outlined that Apple's electric car project (code-named Project Titan) has been internally categorized as a “commercial project” with a zealous 2019 target ship date. In August, UK's Guardian mentioned that Apple was hunting for reliable locations in the San Francisco Bay area to test the car.
