All-new Volkswagen Golf R-Line bookings open in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has really given relief to the sore eyes who were waiting for the launch of the eight-generation Golf for a long time. It is now offering the flagship Golf R and mid-spec Golf GTI at RM 356,412 and RM 211,689, respectively, and accepting the Golf R-Line pre-bookings at an estimated price range of RM 155,000 - RM 165,000.

Just like the Golf GTI, the new Golf R-Line will also be available as a CKD model in the country, locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. 

The upgraded model is powered by the tried and tested 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged inline-four, petrol mill kicking out a maximum power output of 150 PS at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of  250 Nm between 1,500 - 4,000 rpm. While the engine is borrowed from the Mk7.5 Golf, the transmission available with the new Golf R-Line is the new 8-speed automatic shift by wire unit replacing the DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

On the performance front, the new Golf R-Line clocks the 100 kmph in 8.5 seconds on its way to hitting a top speed of 224 kmph.

Aesthetically, the revamped Golf R-Line looks extremely sporty with a leaner grille, narrow LED headlights, and an imposing R-Line bumper on the front. Also, parts of the R-Line styling pack are unique C signature Gloss Black front air intakes, rear bumper, and side skirts. Complementing the R-Line bumper on the rear are LED tail lights with dynamic indicators, rear roof spoiler, and exhaust tailpipes. The hatchback rolls on 17-inch Valencia alloy wheels.

The Golf R-Line colour options are - Moonstone Grey (matte), Kings Red (metallic), Atlantic Blue (metallic), Deep Black, and Oryx White. The latter two are available with the pearl effect.

To match up with the sporty exterior, the R-Line comes with front sports seats teamed up with Sardegna fabric, R-line badges embossed on the headrests, and Art Velours side bolsters. Making the interior landscape digitise is a revolutionary dashboard kitted with an advanced 10.25” Digital Cockpit, a multifunction steering wheel, and a 10-inch Discover Media infotainment unit. It also has an innovative gear selector.

Other significant inclusions are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, three-zone climate control, electronic parking brake, and 30-colour interior lighting system.

As for safety, the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R-Line comprises six airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, electronic stability control, post-Collision Braking System, and tyre Pressure Leak Indicator.
