All-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class: 7 High-tech features

Mercedes-Benz introduced the all-new version of the S-Class in Malaysia last month. In its latest avatar, the high-selling luxury limousine exudes the latest technologies and innovations offering a never forgetting driving experience to the customers. The all-new S-Class is on offer in a sole S 580 e plug-in hybrid trim, which is locally assembled at the Pekan assembly plant. Its deliveries will start in mid-January 2022. In today’s story, we have listed out some amazing features of the new S 580 e, have a look.

Next level MBUX system

The interior of the new S-Class is more digital and intelligent, thanks to the next-level MBUX infotainment system, which offers a new dimension in personalization and interaction. With up to five large screens, the system features a fingerprint scanner just below the central display. Included in the five screens are a 12.8-inch vertical touchscreen in the middle, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, twin 11-inch rear screens, and a 7.0-inch Android tablet.

The MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation connects the virtual world with the real world by offering live images to ensure drivers reach safely and stress-free. There is a new 3D driver display that allows a spatial view at the touch of a button for the first time.

It also has a smart voice assistant that gets activated with the “Hey Mercedes" keyword. It also explains vehicle functions and answers GK questions. Moreover, it can be controlled from the rear also.

MBUX Interior Assist paired with an overhead control panel recognizes and anticipates the moves of the occupants. It improves safety, for instance, it notifies the driver if the seat belt of the child seat is not fastened at the time of starting the journey.

Hi-tech seats

The seats of the new S-Class are a technological benchmark for long-distance comfort. They feature a flowing, 3D layer design theme, Nappa leather upholstery, and multiple motors for comfortable seating. A heat-able additional cushion for the head restraint is also there for power-adjustable rear seats.

Rear airbags

When it comes to safety innovations, the updated S-Class is the world’s first series-production passenger vehicle having rear airbags. These are integrated into the backrests of the front seats and deployed in the case of a severe front impact. They protect rear-seat passengers against contact with the front seats.

PRE-SAFE

This advanced safety feature saves the occupants from side-on collisions, just like a bodyguard. It pushes the driver/front occupant towards the inside that is away from the danger zone. The side bolsters positioned in the front backrests create an impulse and a balloon lying beneath the upholstery activates pyrotechnically, just like an airbag. When the system detects an imminent side collision, a gas generator fills the balloon in an extremely short time and the seat side bolster transfers the momentum towards the middle of the vehicle.

DIGITAL LIGHT

Each headlamp of the revamped S-Class sedan comes with a DIGITAL LIGHT feature. This system has a light module with three powerful LEDs that are refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro-mirrors. Thus, its resolution is more than 2.6 million pixels per vehicle. It makes Highbeam Assist over 100 times more precise in comparison to 84-pixel light The light distribution of all the other adaptive light functions is also more precise now.

Interactive interior lighting

Not only exterior lighting, but the interior lighting of the new S-Class has leaped forward thanks to LED technology. With an additional layer of light, the active ambient lighting complements ambient lighting. The automaker integrated it with the advanced driving assistance systems, which reinforces alerts visually. It can also be applied to the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant or climate control system.

New-gen plug-in hybrid drivetrain

On the mechanical front, the new S 580 e is equipped with a new-gen plug-in hybrid system that offers the best of both worlds - electric and combustion engine. The sedan can be driven on battery power alone for shorter distances when on a long journey, the combustion engine comes into action.

There is a 3.0-litre straight-six turbo engine that generates a maximum power output of 362 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm along with an electric motor delivering 147 hp and 440 Nm e-motor. Together, the setup churns out 502 hp and 750 Nm. It is coupled with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. Performance numbers include a century sprint of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph.
