All-new Honda Prelude more details out; launch next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda treated us with a preview of the all-new hybrid-electric Prelude at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS). While the model is still in the concept phase, the automaker recently released some preliminary details of this striking sports coupé.

As per that, the production version of the hybrid-electric Prelude sports coupe will launch in Japan and the US late next year, marking the return of the iconic nameplate with a fresh and modern twist. 

"The return of the Honda Prelude as a hybrid-electric sports model demonstrates our continued commitment to offer a variety of exhilarating products to meet the needs of our customers," said Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales US. 

"The first three products in the Honda lineup in the 1970s were Civic, Accord, and Prelude, and soon all three will be back together again in our passenger car lineup as hybrids."

Honda launched the first-gen Prelude in November 1978. Over its 45-year-long history spanning five generations, the sports coupe has consistently introduced innovative cutting-edge technologies in the brand’s lineup as well as industry. These include - four-wheel steering and torque vectoring Active Torque Transfer System.

With the 2025 Honda Prelude, the automaker will introduce an innovative new drive mode, which promises to offer Linear Shift Control, delivering maximum levels of driver engagement.

Globally revealed at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023, the Honda Prelude is a striking two-door coupe, which previews the brand’s vision for the future of sports cars. It blends rich heritage with innovation. 

The upcoming Honda sports coupe boasts a bold design with a low, sporty stance and sharp, futuristic lines. The cabin has an elegant design focused on the driver and uses modern tech and high-quality materials. Under the skin, it carries a hybrid-electric drivetrain utilising an e:HEV dual-motor setup. 

The Honda Prelude is a global model and after hitting the Japanese and US showrooms, it will head towards the European market in 2026. The launch timeline for the ASEAN market has yet to be confirmed.
