All-new 992-gen Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racing car unveiled
KUALA LUMPUR: The first racing version of the 992-gen Porsche 911 has been revealed ahead of the launch of the road-going GT3, scheduled for next year. The Cup car is claimed to be 'a good 1 percent' faster on track than its predecessor. This improvement is possible due to the car's revised chassis, enhanced aerodynamics, and power hike.
As for the 992-gen Porsche 911 Cup racing career, it'll participate in several Porsche Carrera Cup series held worldwide along with the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Powering it is the same 4.0-litre flat-six naturally aspirated mill that did duty on the previous-gen model. The said unit pumps out a maximum power of 510 hp at 8400 rpm and a peak torque of 470 Nm. On a more interesting note, the engine is tuned to run on synthetic fuels which Porsche claims will result in significantly lower C02 emission during a race.
Though the performance figures are not out yet, we expect it to be better than the previous-gen GT3 road car, i.e., 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds.
Coming to maintenance, the dry-sump motor requires a check after every 100 hr of track time, while the six-speed sequential gearbox needs minor inspection after every 60 hours.
Compared to the previous-gen model, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is 28 mm wider at the rear and also features a pair of extra cooling vents placed ahead of the rear wheels, all thanks to its wide-body shell based on the 911 Turbo. In addition, the Cup car gains a bigger rear wing and front splitter, resulting in improved aerodynamics.
The new 911 GT3 Cup's body is made up of 30 percent steel and 70 percent aluminium, which is the reverse of its predecessor. Despite the lighter structure, the new model weighs 1260 kg, which is 35 kg heavier, courtesy to the new support struts.
On the inside, the 911 GT3 Cup gains a new 10.3-inch colour display that assures easy access to vital information. A new rotary control knob has also been introduced for adjusting the brake balance.
There is no update on whether the new 911 GT3 Cup will be offered in the local market. However what we do have on offer is the standard Porsche 911 lineup, whose range starts from RM 900,000 and goes till RM 2.9 million.
