All-new 2022 Proton X70: Features discussed in pictures

Proton Malaysia launched the all-new X70 SUV four years back, and the car was an immediate success, with nearly 70,000 units sold to date. Proton has given the car its first update, including a new powertrain option and a minor styling tweak.

Before discussing the new X70 in detail via pictures, let's first go through the basic specifications, like variants, pricing, and colour options.

The 2022 X70 is offered in five variants, all of which, along with their respective prices, are mentioned in the table below -

The X70 1.5 Executive AWD variant was dropped from the model's range in 2020, and now it is returning. Thus giving customers an extra option to choose from. All the other X70 models are carried over, but they now come with a price hike. Don't get confused by the range-topping X70 1.8 Premium variant, as it is the same old Premium X model, just re-named.

All the prices mentioned above include sales and service tax exemption, valid until the end of June. These on-the-road prices do not include insurance but come with a 5-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, 5-year data package (1GB/month) and 3-times free labour charges for service.

Powertrain details

The new X70 SUV is offered in five variants and two engine options, both of which are -

A 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder in-line 12 valve DOHC, TGDi unit making a maximum power of 177 PS at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 255 Nm from 1500-4000 rpm.

A 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder in-line 16-valve DOHC, TGDi unit generating maximum power of 184 PS at 5500 rpm along with a peak torque of 300 Nm from 1750-4000 rpm.

In both the engine options, the drive is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with manual mode.

Now, let us discuss the new Proton X70 SUV features in detail with the help of images -

The X70 gets a stylish set of LED headlamps with daytime running lamps that offer maximum illumination under any condition.

The SUV rides on 19-inch stylish wheels with a unique floral motif beautifully done in the dual-tone finish.

Offering an added layer of convenience and protection during the rainy season is the X70's automatic rain-sensing wipers. These units detect raindrops and adjust the wiper speed according to the rain intensity.

The front welcome lamps give this already stylish car an added class touch. These units
illuminate the brand's long on the ground every time the front door opens.

The driver gets to see all the necessary information along the route via the 7-inch high-definition instrument panel. The information here is displayed in a crisp and precise manner.

The X70's cabin is a spacious one; however, making it look and feel more open and airy is the massive panoramic sunroof.

The X70 comes with an effective air-conditioning system with the added advantage of the N95 filter that effectively eliminates dust, smoke particles, bacteria and other pollutants from the air circulating inside. Also, part of the kit is an air purification system that takes care of foul odours and harmful gases. Guess what? It even kills bacteria.

The 2022 X70 features super comfortable seats covered in Nappa leather (depending on the variant). While the driver's seat benefits from a 6-way power adjustment and 2-way lumbar support, the two front seats are ventilated with coll air.

Adding an extra layer of convenience is the SUV's power tailgate that opens & closes with just a swift foot movement under the rear bumper.

Like most modern-age cars, the X70 also supports a voice command system that the driver can use to control functions like air-con system, window operations, and navigation. All the driver needs to do is say 'Hi Proton' to the infotainment head unit.

Keeping the driver and the passenger connected to the outside world are X70s six USB ports - two on the front console, one on the centre console, two below the rear air vents, and one behind the rear view mirror.

When inside an X70, a lot can be done, like limitless access to music from streaming platforms, the latest weather forecast, online navigation, and mirror-link to Android or iOS smartphones.

The SUV has nine speakers positioned strategically for a fully immersive sound experience enhanced by a power amplifier and subwoofer.

The 2022 X70 is offered in two engine options, 1.5-litre & 1.8-litre, which are coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with manual mode. The gearbox, as can be seen, is bordered by drive modes (Normal, Sport, and Eco) on one side, and
the Auto brake hold function on the other side keeps the car's position when stopped when pressed.

The X70 has a solid safety package, including several active and passive features. Past of the list is - six airbags, autonomous emergency braking & forward collision warning, a 360-degree camera with 3D display, adaptive cruise control, intelligent high beam control, lane departure warning, door opening warning system, and blind-spot information system.

The SUV also gets a tyre pressure monitoring system that monitors real-time tyre pressure and temperature.
