Aion Hyptec HT EV teased for Malaysia; launch expected soon

KUALA LUMPUR: WTC Automotif (WTCA), the official distributor of the GAC and Aion vehicles in Malaysia, is set to bring a new electric car to the local shores, called the Aion Hyptec HT.

The Aion Hyptec HT will rival the likes of the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G6 in Malaysia.The automaker recently teased the upcoming EV on its social media handle, with a caption that reads “Something game-changing is on the horizon.” The post also highlights some of the standout features of the EV viz. 600 km long range, 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, and a first-class seat with a foldable table.

Notably, the upcoming Aion EV was introduced as ‘Hyper HT’ during the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. However, the automaker now refers to it as ‘Hyptec HT,’ aligning with Thailand and Indonesia, which also use the export-market name.
Aion Hyptec HT: What to expect?
Design
The GAC Hyptec HT is a fastback electric SUV that measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,700 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,935 mm. It is based on the automaker’s AEP3.0 third-gen electric platform and incorporates an upgraded body structure and a low centre of gravity.

The EV boasts a smooth design language with round headlamps, retractable door handles, and rear gull-wing doors.
Drivetrain
The Hyptec HT comes in four drivetrain options in the Chinese markets, all are rear-wheel drive. The output levels are as follows -

However, in Thailand and Indonesia, the Hyptec HT comes in a single 340 PS/430 Nm e-motor mated to an 83.3 kWh Magazine Battery lithium iron phosphate offering a NEDC-rated range of 600 km. The same setup could be offered here as well as the ‘600 km’ range mentioned in the teaser.
