After Suzuki Swift Sport, Malaysia to get Jimny
KUALA LUMPUR: Good news readers! It was only a while back that Suzuki made a comeback in Malaysia with its popular hatch, the Swift Sport. And now, we hear that the Japanese automaker is preparing to introduce its another gem in the local market, the new Jimny. The vehicle’s arrival is scheduled to take place somewhere in the second half of 2021, August to be precise.
In Malaysia, Naza Eastern Motors is the sole distributor of Suzuki and one of its CEO, Datuk Nik Hassan confirmed Jimny’s arrival. Furthermore, it is being said that Malaysia will get the top-spec Jimny model and it will be a fully imported CBU unit from Japan.
The Jimny is well in demand globally with its popularity being judged from the fact that it has already received around 20 pre-bookings. Though Suzuki Malaysia is numb about Jimny’s specifications, we can always take hints from our neighbours.
For instance, in Indonesia, the Suzuki 4X4 is offered in four variants - MT, MT two-tone, AT, and AT two-tone. Powering all the trims is a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit making a maximum power of 102 PS along with a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. Also, part of the kit is the brand’s AllGrip Pro part-time four-wheel-drive system with selectable high and low range.
Known for its off-road ability and robustness, the Jimny is built on a ladder frame with additional cross members. The front and rear end benefit from a three-link rigid axle with coil springs. Further contributing to its off-road performance is 4X4’s 210 mm of ground clearance, 37-degree approach angle, 49-degree departure angle, 28-degree ramp breakover, and 4.9-meter turning radius.
Though it is not as well equipped as other SUVs in the market, it gets basic off-road specialist. For instance, automatic LED headlights with washers, cruise control, leather steering with call/audio controls, automatic air-con system, an aftermarket JVC 2-DIN touchscreen head unit, 15-inch rims and 195/80 AT tyres, hill hold control, two airbags, ESP, hill descent control.
The Malaysian-spec Jimny is expected to get more or less similar specs as the Indonesian model. However, the exact details will be revealed in a few months time, so hold on tight.
