A Proton X60 based on Geely Xing Yue Sport Coupe?

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only a few months back, May to be precise, when Geely launched its new SUV, the Xing Yue Sports Coupe in China. As we all know, Geely and Proton are in a partnership, under which former's cars are re-badged as the later's. Like the Geely Boyue became the X70, and now Geely Binyue is expected to be re-badged as the Proton X50.

Now, with the arrival of the Geely Xing Yue Sports Coupe, the big question is will it arrive in Malaysia, if yes, what will Proton name it? Though there is no official information from Proton, we think that it enter the Malaysian market under the automaker's next-few years plan. And as per the alpha-numeric naming trend followed by Proton, it might be called the X60. Also, from its very silhouette, it closely resembles the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6.

If the Geely Xing Yue Sport Coupe arrives in Malaysia, it will give the middle-class buyers a chance to drive a premium looking vehicle with technology shared with Volvo (Geely’s parent company). All this will surely increase Proton’s popularity and sales, especially if the plug-in hybrid model also arrives.

• The Geely Xing Yue Sport Coupe is built on the world-class CMA architecture, developed at the CEVT in Gothenburg
• Xing Yue is powered by a high-performance, efficient 2.0TD 4-cylinder powerplant that is based on Volvo Car Technology. It offers a maximum power of 238 PS along with a peak torque of 350 Nm

• The power is sent to the wheels via 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission
• The engine meets the world’s most stringent emission standards - China 6d and Euro 6d
• On the performance front, the car can hit the 100 kmph mark in 6.8 seconds
• In addition to the conventional mill, there’s also a hybrid powerplant option that utilizes a 1.5TD coupled to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox. It offers 177 PS and 255 Nm

• Xing Yue is the world’s first Coupe SUV with a PHEV option with a high-capacity 11.3 kwh version, two lithium battery options, and ultra-high capacity 15.2 kwh battery
• Its safety kit includes Level 2 semi-autonomous driving technologies like full-speed Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Traffic Jam Assistance (TJA) and Lane Keeping System (LKS)
